How to solve “MAPI Unavailable Your Outlook profile is not configured correctly. Contact your support team with this information.” error in Skype for Business 2016 client

Hi everyone,
if you have the “MAPI Unavailable Your Outlook profile is not configured correctly. Contact your support team with this information.” error in Skype for Business 2016 client, this is the simple procedure to solve it.

Few weeks ago you could find the simple workaround in Microsoft KB 3147130 (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3147130), but if you search the workaround NOW you will find only a very useless link to a the July 5, 2016, update (KB3115268) for Skype for Business 2016 client. The KB say that this is a solved issue, but it’s still present in Office 2016 C2R (I use the latest 16.0.7030.1016 64bit).

So, to help you and me to solve this annoying issue, here you can find the workaround that… works!

  1. With Active Directory Users and Computer (advanced option on) read and copy the legacyExchangeDN value of the user with the issue
  2. Open Regedit on the PC with the issue
  3. Locate and open this key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles\Outlook\0a0d020000000000c000000000000046

  4. Read the value in this binary key 01023d15

    reg1

  5. Go the the key based on the value you find before

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Profiles\Outlook\2d2c0c290a05d84ba2565b62b24a694a

  6. Create a REG_SZ key 001e6603 with the legacyExchangeDN value

    reg2

  7. Close Outlook and SfB, reopen both, confirm the issue is solved!

Hope this could help
Regards
Luca

  1. I found your (very interesting) information when looking for the inverse problem: how to disable the MAPI synchronization between SfB and Outlook (both 2016) as it messes up the synchronization information. I would like to use only EWS but it looks like this is not easy to achieve.

    • Thank you Wojtek, glad to know. I’ve never think about this article that way (inverse problem :-). What kind of mess do you have with MAPI?
      Regards.
